Farm Life...

We now have our third goat and I named her Moon Dance.  She is settling into her new home nicely and she should kid in a couple months.  Slowly we are building up my dream farm!  :)  I'm milking Morning Star now and her milk is delicious.  I just separate Moon from mama for the nights and let him be with her all day.  He sure doesn't like to be away from his mama, but so far this is working out well.

So that is a our short farm life update....  I was going to post more, but while I was sitting here, I heard something fall behind me. I had totally forgotten that I was making bread in the Bosch and it was rising for a bit.  Well it rose so high it knocked the lid off.  I'll need to shape the dough into loaves in just a few minutes, so I'll post this and share more tomorrow.  :)  It sure is handy to have my desk here in the kitchen, but sometimes I forget I'm suppose to be doing other things.  LOL

Middle of March Update :)

So it is already the middle of March!!!  Yay!!!  I'm so ready for spring to arrive along with the warmer weather, spring breezes, open windows and all that goes along with that.  :)  Come spring!!!

This past week went by so quickly!  Since the girls had no school, I kept our homeschooling week very light.  My plan was to just do math, but one son got sick, so we did math on 2 or 3 days.  That is ok, next week we will begin in earnest and see if we can be done school for the summer by May.  :)

In other news, we have a goat/s!!  We have selected two does, and we brought one home about two weeks ago and she kidded last weekend.  She had a healthy boy and he is so adorable!!  Both are doing well.  :)  The other doeling is still with the buck and we will bring her home the beginning of April, so just a couple more weeks.  

We named the doe Morning Star and her baby is Moon.  :)  Moon is a frisky little fellow and when we sit in the pen, he loves to jump onto our laps, we like to imagine that he thinks he is mountain climbing.  LOL  K. just loves being with him and giggles when he is jumping all over her.  So cute to watch!  I'm hoping to milk the mama at some point.  Right now I'm letting the baby drink all he wants.  :)  So that has been a bit exciting!!  I was there for the birth....  Morning Star is such a docile doe, I'm hoping it works out well for us to milk her and we LIKE the milk.  :)  Growing up we had goats and I don't remember goat's milk tasting any different then cow's milk, but now I'm older and I'm not so sure.  LOL

In the sewing "room",  I was able to sew one skirt last week for R.  She really needs some new skirts.  I was hoping to get a couple more sewn, but the week just went by to quickly.  I sewed up another diaper last week!  Now I'm out of snaps....  So I need to order some more, I do enjoy using cloth diapers and think of the money I'm saving.  hee hee  :)

At church, we just started a monthly ladies Bible study,  we are going through "True Women 101 Divine Design" by Mary Kassian and Nancy Leigh DeMoss.  It's an eight week study, but we will be doing it once a month instead.  :)

It was a good discussion.  Our purpose in life is to put God on display - to reflect His glory in ways we as women were uniquely created to do. I never quite thought of this before.  I'm so enjoying our church!  It's been so good.

So that is in a nutshell of what I've been up to lately.  :)  Life as a wife and mama can keep one very busy, but I'm happy and content in my calling here.  God is so good and I've been so blessed.  :)

A Neat Experience

My second daughter and I have taken up biking every evening the past week and a half.  Today, we decided we were just going to go up to the corner and back, instead going on like we had been doing.  Our legs are a bit sore.  :)  Anyway, I got up to the corner and was waiting for R. ( uphill to the corner) :) and I had the thoughts of going on, instead of turning around.  So I ask R. if she wanted to go on and also I thought maybe we could turn right instead of turning left like we have been doing.  R agreed and off we went.  It was a beautiful summer evening with included a lovely breeze.  We went down the road a ways and I decided we were turn around when we got to the edge of the forest.    We turned around and were just going to head back when we heard a little "maa!"  R. pointed out to me a little white goat!  He tried to come up out of the ditch towards us and it was like he was asking for help or telling us he was lost!  R. and I wondered who's little goat this might be belong to and I decided that I'd go back to the Amish farm at the end of our road and see it is belonged to them.  R stayed back with the young goat.

So I bike back to the farm and saw Mrs. B. out in the barn doing chores.  I asked her if they had any goats and I told her about the little one we found.  She told me they did have a goat and it was probably theirs, but her husband was out threshing and he would not be able to come and get it until later.  I left feeling good that we knew where the kid belonged, but sad that we would have to leave it.  I knew it would probably wonder off and not be there when Mr. B. could come looking for it.  I biked back to R. and the whole time wondering how I could get this little goat home and safe.  When I reach R. and the goat, I saw another Amish cart coming down the road towards us.  I thought here is my answer, I can stop this buggy and see if they can take the goat back and they were even headed the right way! 

The man stopped, while actually his horse wasn't sure of what we were doing, so I told the man about the kid and wondered if he could take it to the B's farm.  He said sure, I held his horse and he caught the young goat and put him in the cart he was driving and off they went!  I was so relieved and happy.  It looks like the kid got injured, he couldn't use his right front leg, no blood, so I wonder if it got broken or dislocated. Who knows what happened and I don't know how long he was missing. Anyway, the Amish man took the goat to the owners and I was thankful.

The Lord knew that little goat was lost and hurt and He had us go down that way to get him home back safely.  Such a wonder feeling to be used by the Lord, even for one young goat.

Spring Days

Spring days are always so lovely and pleasant.  The house has been quieter in the afternoons, because the children have been enjoying the great outdoors.  Today our big boys helped their Opa finish cleaning up the garden and Opa also got it all tilled.  I'm looking forward to planting season and watching the garden grow!  Which reminds me I had better place my seed order!!

I spent the day indoors, Baby Dear is sick and I needed to stay close to him.  He did have a good nap and seemed a bit better this evening.  I think the fever is from teething, poor little fellow.

Anyway, I had lots to keep me busy with while he napped.  I had decided to have my sewing station up in our loft upstairs, but now we have decided that the loft would be a great school area for our big girls.  Plus my sewing area is needing a larger room and I'll be honest, my sewing area is not always neat.  So passing that every time I went to my room was discouraging.  LOL

So we are making progress, I have a room in the basement that I can organize as time allows and one day we will put down a flooring and drywall the walls and it will be my little sewing haven.  :)  Until then, I'll make do with what I have. 

Pictures!!  Like I have mentioned earlier I now use a different computer, so I have yet to hook up our camera and see how it all works.  Hopefully this Mac mini doesn't complicate my life to much.  I have that on my to do list for tomorrow.  :)  I have pictures I want to share from our trip, plus I want to share more details!

A little funny from today...

This evening when I went to the barn to do the evening milking our toddler accompanied me .  My big girls take turns helping and tonight it was my oldest milking on one side and I on the other  She called M. over to watch her and she asked him if he wanted to drink some milk.  She is my child that will do many things I'd never do! Anyways, she squirted the milk over and drank what she could catch with her mouth.  Needless to say, M. didn't want to try it and he told S. that it was gross.  LOL  He is only 2 1/2.  I had a good chuckle...
